Wireless and fiber customers (including me) experienced an outage Monday night through Tuesday afternoon. That disabled my VOIP phone and my cellphone is unreliable at the farm.
When I finally got cell phone service, Jaison informed me the outage was widespread. Even though an upstream failure was suspected I made the run to the POP and found web service running normally. That meant the problem was between our upstream connection and our TWR connection. That pointed to our normally trusty Mikrotik router. The lights looked normal except they didn't blink (indicating traffic). There is a tested spare adjacent but I did the Microsoft bounce, pulling and replacing the power brick.
I hooked up my laptop, logged into the router and things looked normal. A call to Misha confirmed service was restored.
I have dusted off an old Internet accessible power switch. That would not have worked from inside the TWR network but it would allow me to bounce the router when I am in Fairfax.
