I bought two of these recently, one to replace a Motorola WR850G needed elsewhere and to increase range around the farm.

Note that this is a software driven purchase. I was looking for a good if not the best plartorm for dd-wrt. dd-wrt is "free" firmware for a fairly large class of wireless broadband routers. dd-wrt started out as an enhancement of the firmware for the Linksys WRT-54G which was developed by Sveasoft using components of Linux. When Cisco purchased Linksys, they honored the GPL and released the firware.

Since then, dd-wrt has taken on a life of its own which a feature set that outstrips the commercial version provided by the manufacturer. Among the many enhancements is the ability to operate the router in a number of wireless modes including "client bridge". Most commercial systems only permit operating the radio as an AP (access point) meaning they are intended to originate a connection to an upstream wired network. "Client bridge" allows the router to connect a downstream wired network to an upstream wireless network.

This Buffalo router is the one sold on the dd-wrt web site and is generally accepted as the best performing dd-wrt compatible router in the retail market.

So far it is performing as advertised, I have to roam about the farm to determine its reach. I bought mine on Ebay already flashed. You can find the raw retail as low as $60 on the 'net.
