The Krüger Brothers and Grand Ole Opry star George Hamilton IV are among the performers at the 14th Annual Wayne C. Henderson Music Festival and Guitar Competition. The family-friendly event is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, rain or shine, at beautiful Grayson Highlands State Park near Mouth of Wilson, Virginia.

 

Also appearing on the main stage will be the New North Carolina Ramblers, the Harris Brothers, Robin Kessinger and Todd Hallawell, No Speed Limit and Wayne Henderson and Friends. Ten lucky guitar contestants will perform and have the chance to win a handmade guitar by Henderson.

 

Internationally known country star Hamilton got his start in 1956 with the song “A Rose and A Baby Ruth,” and his career has taken him to stages around the world. He has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1960. The Krüger Brothers moved to Wilkes County, North Carolina, from Switzerland a few years ago and delight audience with bluegrass and other musical styles. The New North Carolina Ramblers have their roots in the traditional string music of Piedmont North Carolina and Southwest Virginia and feature banjo player Kinney Rorrer, co-host of the Sunday afternoon show “Back to the Blue Ridge” on public radio WVTF-FM. The Harris Brothers, a duo from Lenoir, North Carolina, are making a name with their old-time string band music mixed with blues, country and rock. Robin Kessinger is one of the country’s leading flatpicking guitarists, and he will play with fingerstyle guitarist Todd Hallawell. No Speed Limit is known for its hot bluegrass from Southwest Virginia. Wayne Henderson, from Rugby, Virginia, is a top-notch fingerpicking guitarist and luthier with a long waiting list.

 

Music will fill the air from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. A children’s area will feature a number of performers, including lariat master Doug Smith and his rope tricks, a magician, dulcimer lessons, music, crafts and games.
