LSAir - Fast Always-On Broadband Wireless Internet
Just $30 per month for a fulltime residential
connection! No phone line required.
LSAir's initial coverage area is bounded by Locust
Street and the hospital to the North, Armory Road and Waugh
Drive to the West, Country Club Lane to the East and the
Recreation Center to the South. Some locations within these
boundaries may require an outdoor antenna and/or amplifier.
Some locations outside these boundaries may establish a
connection with an outdoor antenna. The general rule is if
you can see the rooftops of downtown Galax you can get
service. We are constantly adding access points, so call to see if we are in your area!
What you get
A high speed (256 kbps) full-time (24/7/365) Internet
connection - and - a backup dialup connection to LSNet.
Users still get email and 10MB of server space for web
sites, as well as 1GB traffic per month ($0.02/megabye over
1000 megabytes).
What you need
To keep subscription prices as low as possible, all
customer premise equipment and services are fee based.
Installation is free with equipment purchase and first
month's fee paid in advance. Outdoor installations include
wall or chimney mount, 50' CAT5 cable, and 25' ground wire.
Indoor installations include placement of radio in appropriate
window and the included cable. All installations are for one computer.
Networking services are available for $100 per PC. This cost includes wiring, jack and labor. More than one PC requires a router, which is an additional $79.95. Topo site surveys
are offered to estimate feasibility. Monthly cost of the wireless Internet service is $30.00.
BASIC Indoor Installation Package is $150.00 plus 1 month service for 1 seat. Indoor Cost Without Installation is $149.95.
BASIC Outdoor Installation Package is $200.00 plus 1 month service for 1 seat. Basic means the install is straightforward with NO HEROICS. Wall mount or chimney mount. Heroics cost more $$ and are dependent on the circumstance. Ask
for an estimate if you think you will need help.
Client. Of the dozen or so clients we
have tested, the Senao CB3 3054AP and CB5 2611b client have performed the best.
Some close in users have connected with built-in and
cardbus adapters. If your computer detects the SSID Hotspot,
you may already have the necessary equipment. Marginal
connections may be improved with the addition of an
external antenna.
Broadband Router.Most installations
will benefit from the addition of a broadband router. Not only does the firewall help
protect you from hacking attempts but you can connect
multiple computers to a single wireless connection.
Authorization. You will need to supply
the "MAC" address of your wireless adapter. The MAC address
and your user name are needed to send traffic through our
AP. You will also need a password to access the backup
dialup server.
Wireless networks.
Take advantage of our experience in both internal and
campus wireless networks.
