GALAX, Va. (April 2008) The Conservatory of Dance & Theatre and the Galax Theatre Guild will perform an amateur version of the dance musical Cats Saturday, May 3 (2:00pm), Sunday, May 4 (3:00pm), Saturday, May 10 (6:00pm) and Sunday, May 11 (3:00pm) at the Rex Theater in downtown Galax.
The production will feature dancers from the Conservatory as well as vocalists from the area.
Conservatory owner and artistic director Barbara Johnson is going outside the realm of classical ballet, which she is best known for. “Our production of Cats will combine elements of jazz, modern dance, classical ballet and tap,” she said. “Although the Conservatory’s forte is classical ballet, we also teach other dance genres.”

Submitted by tarvid on Tue, 2008/02/05 - 09:36.The Conservatory of Dance & Theatre welcomes Linda Donnell as acting instructor. Donnell will teach two classes: Acting for Children (7-9 year olds) and Acting for Middle School Students (10-13 year olds). The classes will meet every Friday starting February 15 and will run for 6 weeks. The Children's Class is from 4:30pm-5:30pm and Middle School students meet from 5:45pm-6:45pm.
In Acting for Children, students will be introduced to the actor's process by training their voice and body to respond in imaginary circumstances through varied warm-up exercises and theater games.

ACT Readers Theatre To Perform
“Anne of Green Gables” November 26 and 29
Alleghany Community Theatre’s next ACT Readers Theatre will be “Anne of Green Gables” scheduled for Monday, November 26 at the Historic 1908 Courthouse in Independence, VA, and Thursday, November 29 in the Alleghany County Library, 122 North Main Street in Sparta. Both performances will be at 7:00 pm.
Casting Call for The Nutcracker
Submitted by tarvid on Wed, 2007/10/17 - 20:43.The Conservatory of Dance & Theatre is looking for young boys, ages 8-13, to be soldiers in this year's production of The Nutcracker ballet. The boys do not have to dance, but will march, carry toy guns and defend Clara from the attacking mice. Soldier uniforms will be provided.
The Conservatory also has openings for adults who would like to be a parent in The Party Scene. Adults in the Party Scene mainly act with the children and will have an opportunity to learn ballroom dancing if they wish. Evening gowns and tuxedos will be provided.
The Nutcracker will be Saturday, December 8 at the Ashe Civic Center in West Jefferson, NC and Saturday and Sunday, December 15-16 in Galax and will require several rehearsals in Galax.
