General notes on upgrading from Drupal5 to Drupal6

The database suffered from

• installation and removal of CiviCRM and Gallery 2
• inconsistent character sets and collation sequences

CiviCRM uses "Foreign Keys" and the default MySQL settings protect against deletion  of tables which provide FKEYs which are referenced in other tables. The workaround is

set foreign_key_checks=0;

We need a list of CiviCRM tables which can be obtained with

mysqldump -ptup@c --add-drop-table --no-data mtvale | grep ^DROP | grep civicrm

g2 tables do not use foreign keys and can be dropped straight away

For reasons of simplicity and sanity we should use the same "unicode" character set and collation sequence everywhere. They are "utf8" and "utf8-general-ci" (case insensitive). To convert a table:

As part of a weekly log review, a few of the broken links were tackled. They include

• ecgs4

My guess is that many broken links resulted from an attempt to correct older html and php pages by mass edits.

THe url_alias table had entries for the missing pages which complicated the process of rebuilding those pages. In most cases the broken aliases could be removed with phpmyadmin but oche persisted and was finally aliased to ochex and the reference patched.

Extra 25' hose and sprinkler for kitchen garden. Done but the pump capacity seems to be lower than before.

Pump and hose for lower garden. - Ram pump constructed, installed but the output is low <400 gallons per day.

Gas for now, eventually it would be neat to get electricity down there. Ram pump vastly more cost effective if only the output were adequate.
